For a period of more than 330 years, Bulgaria won recognition as the country of roses and the rose flower has rightfully become one of its symbols. Statistics show that once about 75% of the world rose oil was produced in Bulgaria.

Departure from Sofia to Rila Monastery UNESCO site. Tour. Admire wooden balconies, azure fretwork, collonades, facades and colourful frescoes, silhouetted against a fantastic panorama of mountain peaks. Altitude 1147 meters above sea level. Founded in the 10th century. National Historical Reserve since 1976. UNESCO site since 1983.
Lunch. Departure to Plovdiv via mountain picturesque roads. Arrival in Plovdiv - 2nd largest city in Bulgaria, once capital city of Philip the 2nd of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great. The city is contemporary of Troy, and is much older than Athens and Rome.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Plovdiv.
Morning tour of the Old Plovdiv architectural reserve – visit Hindlian House, the Ancient Amphitheatre, St. Constantine and Helena Church, the workshop of a local potter. Lunch. Proceed to Kazanluk – the Valley of Roses, known as well as the Valley of the Thracian kings. Check in at the hotel.
Demonstration of folklore costumes from different regions of Bulgaria and lesson of Bulgarian folklore dances. Dinner with folklore performance.
Early breakfast. Departure to the Rose fields. Rose gathering, visit traditional and modern rose distillery, tasting of rose and essential oils, pastry with cheese, rose jam and rose liquor.
Visit of the history museum of Kazanluk and Kazanluk Thracian tomb ( UNESCO site, copy ).
Carnival procession on the main street of Kazanluk. Lunch barbeque with folklore performance from all folklore regions of Bulgaria. Departure to Shipka memorial church. Visit. Via Shipka mountain pass to Dryanovo Monastery. Visit. Proceed to Veliko Turnovo. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Full day tour of Veliko Turnovo – the Mediaeval Capital city of Bulgaria, located on 4 hills above Yantra river. Visit Samovodska Charshia Street of Crafts with some workshops, antique and souvenir shops. Visit Tsarevets Royal Hill with the fortress, Patriarh`s complex and Baldwin tower – the leader of the 4th Crusade.
Lunch in Arbanassi museum village. Visit of the area and the nearby Petropavlovski Monastery. Late afternoon departure from Veliko Turnovo to Sofia. Dinner and check in at the hotel.
